Oilers announce scholarship opportunities

The Peninsula Oilers Baseball Club is pleased to extend our scholarship program again this year. As in past years, we will be awarding a $1,000 scholarship to one graduating senior from each of the following high schools: Nikiski, Kenai Central, Soldotna and Skyview.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the scholarship: 1. Must currently be enrolled as a senior at one of the four high schools listed above; 2. Must be scheduled to graduate in May 2013; 3. Should be interested in or have participated in athletics.

To apply for the scholarship: 1. Print and fill out the application at www.oilersbaseball.com or see your high school guidance counselor; 2. Mail your application to Oilers Baseball, PO Box 318, Kenai, AK 99611 or drop off the application to the Oilers office at 601 S. Main St., Kenai; 3. All applications must be postmarked or delivered to the office by 4 p.m. on April 19, 2013.

The Oilers Booster Club will also have two $1,000 scholarships available to any Kenai Peninsula high school senior graduating this spring. The application for that award is also available on our website at www.oilersbaseball.com. Any questions about either of these scholarship opportunities can be answered by the Oilers office staff by calling 283-7133.

The mission of the Peninsula Oilers Baseball Club, Inc., is to foster, promote and organize amateur and recreational baseball on the Kenai Peninsula.

We would also like to take this time to apologize for missing the Soldotna Elks Club and the Kenai Moose Lodge for donating to the Gusher. We appreciate your support!

Oilers Corner is submitted by James Clark, the general manager for the Alaska Baseball League club.
