PSDRA holds race

The Peninsula Sled Dog and Racing Association held a race Saturday at the trail near the Soldotna airport.

Mushers were greeted by a near-perfect trail and temperatures of 2 degrees.

The event drew many retired sled dogs, because the Senior Sled Dog Class was offered. Those dogs were aged 8 to 15, with Mindee Morning racing that oldest team at an average of 12.5 years old.

The association thanked volunteers Bill Holt, Leon Mensch, Joe Mooney and Stan Mishin for making the race possible.

The results follow:

Six-dog, seven-mile — 1. Jim Arndt, 24 minutes, 31 seconds; 2. Jane Adkins, 27:11; 3. Stephanie Burns, 30:57.

Four-dog, 4.5-mile — 1. Jill Garnet, 16:01; 2. Jim Arndt, 16:43; 3. Miranda Rizzo, 22:11.

Senior Sled Dog, 4.5 miles — 1. Jim Arndt, 11:32 (actual 16:47); 2. Stephanie Burns, 14:06 (actual 19:21); 3. Jane Adkins, 14:11 (actual 20:56); 4. Jill Garnet, 16:24 (actual 19:39); 5. Holly Stanger, 20:27 (actual 21:42); 6. Mindee Morning, 22:24 (actual 29:54).
