The Peninsula Oilers have added Brody Greer from University of South Carolina Upstate to their roster for the 2013 season. Greer is a freshman this season for the Spartans. Greer currently plays shortstop and is listed at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds.
During his high school career, Greer earned three letters in baseball at Belton-Honea Path High School. He hit .324 with two homers and 21 RBIs as a senior, helping the Bears win the Class 3A state title. He also pitched 13 innings, posting a 2-1 record and a 3.24 ERA. For that season, he earned All-Western AAA Region honors and was selected to the North/South All-Star Game, while also nabbing the Coaches’ Leadership Award.
He was an All-Western AAA Region selection as a junior. He earned the team’s Offensive MVP and helped the Bears win a school-record 26 games while hitting .351 with 27 runs, eight doubles, a triple, three homers and 32 RBIs. On the mound, he went 5-1 with a 1.87 ERA, striking out 24 and walking 18 in 33 2-3 innings. Finally, Greer played with the Blue Chip Bulls and with the Northwest team during the Palmetto Games, a two-day showcase at South Carolina’s Sarge Frye Field, during the summer.
