SoHi tramples SkyHi in softball

Soldotna’s bats got some good exercise Tuesday evening at Soldotna, as the Stars beat Skyview 11-2 in their first home game of the year.

 

Kaycee Munn belted a grand slam in the second inning, and later added a 2-run homer to go along with six RBI for her. Teammate Kalina Smith was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate and Serena Prior added a single, double and triple to go 3-for-4.

Prior also received the win as the starting pitcher.

Soldotna coach Kelli Knoebel was pleased with the team’s effort, which included a the pivotal 6-run second inning, followed by two runs in the third and three in the fifth.

“They absolutely hit the crap out of the ball,” Knoebel said. “We had no fielding errors and Serena pitched well, so this was a good game.”

Both of Skyview’s runs came in the second inning.

SoHi (2-1) will face Kenai Central on Thursday at Kenai, then will host the Houston Hawks on Friday. Skyview (0-3) travels to Kenai today for a 6 p.m. tilt, then will host Houston in a doubleheader Saturday, starting at noon.
