Soldotna girls 15, Houston 0

The visiting Stars cruised past Northern Lights Conference foe Houston on Friday.

“We wanted to possess the ball, move the ball around and maintain the flow of the game,” Soldotna coach Jimmy Love said after moving to 8-0-1. “We were able to do that.”

The scoring in the first half was Skylar Shaw from Kylee Wolfe, Julie Litchfield from Wolfe, Taryn McCubbins from Wolfe, Olivia Conradi from Molly Fenton and Wolfe, Litchfield from Fenton, Conradi from Fenton and Anna Wrobel, Fenton unassiasted, Conradi from Fenton, and McCubbins from Kelci Benson.

The visiting Stars cruised past the Hawks in NLC play on Friday.

“We were trying to work with the chemisty of our guys,” SoHi coach Jeff Siemers said after improving to 4-3-1. “We were playing on a good surface on the turf at Colony, so we wanted to work on possession of the ball and take advantage of any good opportunities to score.”

Cory Carver took the most advantage of those opportunities, netting five goals. Siemers said the best assist on those goals came from Sawyer Rickman off a set play.

Cameron Grothe added a pair of tallies for the Stars, while Cem Solak had a goal and Charalambos Asimakopoulos added a score.

Kayne North had the shutout in the goal.

Colony girls 3, Skyview 0

The host Panthers had already been assured of missing the NLC tournament before the game, so Skyview coach Dave Carpenter was proud of his team for sticking with the powerhouse Knights.

“They could have folded,” Carpenter said. “They still worked hard to improve. That’s why we’re here.”

Carpenter did say Colony subbed a lot during the game, but the improvement by his side was still evident.

In a Thursday loss to Nikiski and on Friday, the coach said Cheyenne Laber did a great job at midfield. Carpenter also said Nicole Tromblee continued to be relentless up front, slipping behind the Colony defense a number of times.

The Skyview boys also lost to Colony on Friday.

Homer girls 1, Palmer 0

The host Mariners made an early goal stand up against the Moose in Northern Lights Conference play on Friday.

Homer moved to 4-2-1 with the victory.

Just three minutes into the game, Mady Gerard scored on an assist from Maggie Koplin.

Zoia Basargin then turned in a shutout in the net.

Homer coach Mickey Todd said Basargin continues to do a great job at goalie. She had never played the position before this year, and is only playing goalie because she hurt her ankle and can’t run around on the field.

Senior defenders Hope Hudson, Katie Pitzman and Hanna Mikois also helped celebrate senior night by clamping down on the Palmer offense.

“I thought it was a well-contested game,” Todd said. “Palmer had opportunities to score and we had several good opportunites we did not capitalize on. It was a great game.”

Homer boys 2, Palmer 1

The host Mariners notched a Northern Lights Conference victory over the Moose on Friday.

Homer moves to 4-2-1 overall.

Just 16 minutes into the game, Peter Ellert scored off an assist by Carson Duggar to put the Mariners up 1-0. With three minutes left in the first half, Palmer tied the game.

Duggar then scored the game-winner in the 64th minute.
