Kenai baseball tops Soldotna

The Kenai Central baseball team defeated host Soldotna 16-0 in five innings Monday in Northern Lights Conference play.

“For this time of year, I thought we played a total team game,” Kenai coach John Kennedy said after his team moved to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the NLC.

Dallas Pierren went all five innings on the mound. He gave up three hits, two walks and struck out three.

“He was very efficient tonight,” Kennedy said.

Pierren also was helped by Kenai’s best defensive effort of the season. The Kards did not commit an error.

On offense, Kennedy said his team was very disciplined as SoHi pitching struggled to find the plate.

Hector Rivera led the way by going 3 for 4 with four runs, two doubles and two RBIs. Tay Harling was 1 for 1 with four walks.

Gavin Larson had two of SoHi’s hits, while Tyler Fritz had the other.

Kenai travels to play Homer at 7 p.m. Thursday, while SoHi travels to face the Mariners at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
