Homer beats SoHi to win 8 consecutive

The Homer softball team defeated Soldotna 8-0 in a Northern Lights Conference game at home on Wednesday to extend its winning streak to eight games.

The Mariners currently hold a season record of 10-2 overall and 5-0 in the NLC, while SoHi is 7-3 in the conference and 8-5 overall.

“It feels pretty good, we were just hitting well,” said Homer coach Bill Bell.

Hannah LaRue pitched the entire game for Homer, striking out six SoHi players.

“Their pitcher is fabulous,” said SoHi coach Kelli Knoebel. “She pitched high and low and when we hit, we hit it right to them. It’s just one of those things.”

McKi Needham hit 2-for-2 to lead Homer, and teammates Maggie LaRue went 1-for-1 with two runs and a triple, and Miranda Beach went 1-for-3 with a triple.

For the Stars, Serena Prior, Mindi West, Allison Nelson and Kenley Kingrey each hit 1-for-2, and Maddie Wilcox went 1-for-3. Prior pitched and struck out six Homer players.

Beach scored in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game early.

Homer will host Kenai today at 4 p.m., while Soldotna will celebrate senior night on Friday when they face Colony at 6 p.m.
