Homer softball tops Kenai

The host Homer softball team rode a strong second inning to defeat Kenai Central in Northern Lights Conference play Thursday.

The Mariners scored seven runs in the second to take a 9-1 lead and did not look back after that.

“This was our cleanest game,” Kenai coach Mark King said. “We only had two errors.”

King said Hannah LaRue pitched well for Homer. He said the Kards were able to hit her, but the ball went right at the defense.

Havan Shaginoff pitched the whole game for the Kards. King said the Mariners did a good job of hitting the ball in the gaps.

Shaginoff was 2 for 3, while Christina Glenzel was 1 for 2 with a double and RBI, and Shannon Evans was 2 for 2 with an RBI.

If the weather improves, Kenai is scheduled to host Service today at 6 p.m.
