The good weather has given way to much-needed rain on the Kenai Golf Course. The watering crew gets a needed break and the fairways finally get their share of water, settling dust and creating better playing conditions.
Dry areas are turning green and the greens, which do get water every night, get that much-needed warm rain that is so much better than well water. The all-night soaker was indeed a welcome event. Let’s hope for a few more soakers during the next three months of the season.
The wooded area around No. 3 is almost clear of brush. We are in the process of removing some old decaying stumps from that area. Thank you, Dan Young, for all your hard work.
Dan will also begin work on the big stump on the left hand side of No. 18. This is big project, that Dan says will be easily accomplished. Good luck, Dan!
Jerry Norris is also working hard removing blown-down trees from all of our wooded areas. Jerry has committed to this three- to five-year project with a lot of dedication and hard work. Good luck, Jerry!
Work continues on all the wooded areas on the back nine. The big piles of brush will be burned this winter. After the burning process is completed, topsoil will be hauled in and placed over all the burned areas and then seeded. We are very excited about these two projects. It certainly makes a big difference. Thank you so much for your positive comments.
This past week was a special week at the Kenai Golf Course. We just completed the annual Memorial Golf Tournament. It was, indeed, special to remember the people who have made such a big difference at the Kenai Golf Course: George Navarre, Rita Botelho, Bill Zubeck, Donnie Morgan and Butch Anderson.
Many thanks to Mike Navarre and Arby’s for their generous donation to this tournament in honor of George Navarre. Everyone, please take a few moments to remember and reflect upon these very special people, people who have made a difference, not only to the Kenai Golf Course, but to our entire community.
