The Anchorage Bucs defeated the Peninsula Oilers 5-3 on Friday in the opening game of the Scouts Showcase at Mulcahy Field in Anchorage.
The game does not count in the standings of the Alaska Baseball League. In the Scouts Showcase, each ABL team plays a seven-inning game Friday and Saturday, solely for the purpose of showcasing talent for Major League Baseball scouts.
The Oilers finish up play in the showcase Saturday with a 4 p.m. game against the Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks.
In Friday's game, the Oilers had an early lead before the Bucs stormed back with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take control.
All the runs were charged to Travis Barnes, who took the loss. He gave up five runs — four earned — on five hits while striking out one in two innings of work.
Also for the Oilers on the mound, Sam Moore threw two scoreless and hitless innings, Brandon Warner had two scoreless innings and Turner Clouse threw a scoreless inning.
Dillon Dobson and Jake Alvarez led the Oilers on offense. Dobson was 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI, while Alvarez went 2 for 3 and scored a run.
MIchael Hoo had the other hit for the Oilers. Brody Greer and AJ Ramirez added an RBI apiece.
