The Anchorage Glacier Pilots made quick work of the Peninsula Oilers on Thursday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park, notching a 2-0 victory in just 1 hour, 48 minutes.

Both teams had been eliminated from the Alaska Baseball League pennant chase before Thursday’s game. The Oilers are now 17-16 in the league, while the Pilots are 16-17.

The Oilers managed just five hits against three Pilots pitchers, and left just three on-base in getting shut out.

The lack of offense meant hard luck for Oilers starter Sam Moore.

Moore breezed through nine innings for his second complete game of the year. He threw just 97 pitches, and a whopping 74 of those were for strikes.

Brody Russell started the scoring for the Pilots in the first when hit a two-out, 1-2 pitch from Moore for a home run.

“I threw him a fastball inside and he just turned on it,” Moore said in a postgame radio interview on 1140 AM. “It was a good pitch, but a better swing.”

The Pilots added to the lead in the sixth inning.

With one out, Brendan McCurry singled, then Kevin Garcia singled to move McCurry to second.

Russell made the second out by grounding out, moving McCurry to third and Garcia to second.

Kewby Meyer then singled to score McCurry for a 2-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Pilots pitchers were mowing through the Oilers lineup.

Kyle Porter picked up the win by pitching the first seven innings, giving up two hits while striking out four.

Sean Adler pitched a scoreless eighth, while McCurry came from second base to slam the door for a save in the ninth inning.

Both Meyer and Jacob Rice had two hits for the Pilots.

The Oilers close out their season with 6 p.m. games at Seymour Park on Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m.
