Skyview volleyball takes 5th at Chugiak Invite

The Skyview volleyball team took fifth at the 15-team Chugiak Invitational on Saturday.

After pool play Friday, the Panthers started off Saturday by defeating Service, but then lost to South and Palmer to finish fifth.

Cheyanne Laber made the all-tournament team for the Panthers.

“I wish we could play these types of tournaments more than we get the opportunity to,” Skyview coach Sheila Kupferschmid said. “These types of teams make you better. The kids pick up things faster in the quick games. The kids really enjoyed themselves.”

Soldotna finished third in the silver bracket at the tournament. Eight teams made the gold bracket, while seven were in the silver bracket.

Skyview hosts Nikiski at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
