Brown Bears to scrimmage Friday, play golf Saturday

With their home opener scheduled for Sept. 13, the Kenai River Brown Bears are ramping up activities in the community this weekend.

Friday at 7:30 p.m., the Bears will hold an intrasquad scrimmage at the Soldotna Sports Center. The scrimmage will cost $5 per person, with those 4 and under getting in free. Geoff Beauparlant, the head coach of the Brown Bears, said players will be available in the lobby from 6:30 to 7 p.m. for a meet and greet.

Beauparlant said fans can expect a true game atmosphere, with the one caveat that obviously the hitting will not be as forceful as normal.

Saturday, the Bears will be at The Player’s Tournament at Bird Homestead Golf Course. The tournament is a fundraiser to benefit the Bears.

The sign-in will be at 9 a.m., while the tee balls hit the air at 10 a.m.

The tournament costs $100 for individuals, or $250 for a three-person team. The fee includes carts.

Each three-person team will be given a Brown Bears player in a blind draw.

Forms for signing up are available at Bird Homestead and on kenairiverbrownbears.com.
