Wasilla defeated Nikiski on Saturday at Nikiski to win the Shayna Pritchard Memorial Volleyball Tournament.
In the third-place match, Kenai toppled Wasilla’s junior varsity.
Wasilla stormed to the tournament title by defeating Eagle River in its first match of the day, then defeating Kenai to make its way into the finals.
Wasilla’s JV topped Bethel in its first match of the day, but then Nikiski topped Wasilla’s JV to play its way into the finals.
Eagle River topped Bethel for fifth place.
In Friday play to set up Saturday’s bracket, Kenai defeated Wasilla JV 26-24 and 25-14, Wasilla topped Bethel 25-8 and 25-12, Nikiski defeated Wasilla 25-21 and 25-22, Wasilla JV defeated Eagle River 25-21 and 25-20, Kenai defeated Eagle River 27-25 and 25-12, and Nikiski split with Bethel, winning 25-16 and losing 25-23.
For Nikiski, Rachel Thompson nabbed MVP honors, while Nikiski’s Rebekah Krogseng also was on the all-tourament team. Kenai was represented on the all-tournament team by Abby Beck and Justice English.
Wasilla put Cate Currier, Amber Sizemore, Cassidy Edwards, Ashlyn Dorn and Aimee Bushnee on the all-tournament team, while Kare Viotto made the all-tournament team for Eagle River.
North/South Tournament at Seward
Grace Christian defeated Seward 25-23 and 25-18 on Saturday in the championship game of the North/South Tournament in Seward.
Earlier Saturday, Homer defeated Houston 28-26, 20-25 and 16-14 in the loser out game, while Seward topped Homer 25-17 and 25-14 for the consolation prize.
In the first day of the tournament, Grace topped Houston 25-15 and 25-18, Seward topped Homer 25-10 and 25-21, and Grace nipped Seward 20-25, 25-19 and 15-10.
