For the second straight week, the Kenai River Brown Bears earned the Midwest Division Star of the Week.
After goalie Zach Quinn nabbed the honor last week, the North American Hockey League announced Monday that forward Alec Butcher of Anchorage earned the honor.
The Bears finished up a 5-1 road trip to the Lower 48 on Sunday, and Butcher ended the trip as the leading scorer in the NAHL with six goals and five assists.
Saturday, the 5-foot-11, 175-pounder had a goal in a 3-2 loss to the Minnesota Magicians, then he had a goal and an assist in Sunday’s 4-2 win over the Magicians. Butcher also had 10 shots over the course of the weekend.
“Alec leads by example and played with a lot of confidence this weekend,” Brown Bears coach Geoff Beauparlant said in a released statement. “He has good vision and he is not afraid to take the shot when the pressure is on. He is the ultimate competitor and it shows in his consistency.”
Bears forward Conor Deal, also of Anchorage, earned honorable mention. Deal had a goal each night against the Magicians and now has seven points in eight games. The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder had 18 points in 58 games for the Bears last season.
