Skyview wrestlers take 2nd at King of the Mountain

The Skyview wrestling team finished second at the King of the Mountain tournament in Seward on Saturday.

There were nine teams at the event.

Each team wrestles in a dual meet and the final placement is determined by the dual meet records.

Kotzebue won the tournament by finishing 8-0.

The Panthers were 7-1, beating Cordova 66-6, Valdez 43-30, Seward 55-30, Nikiski 72-6, Homer 53-29, Glennallen 65-18 and ACS 55-18. The Panthers lost to Kotzebue 49-21.

Homer was third at the tournament, losing to Skyview and Kotzebue (45-36).

The Mariners beat Glennallen 59-27, ACS 63-22, Cordova 72-12, Valdez 42-39, Seward 58-30 and Nikiski 72-0.

Seward finished sixth. The Seahawks lost to ACS 45-35, beat Cordova 65-18, lost to Valdez 38-36, lost to Skyview, beat Nikiski 72-6, lost to Homer, lost to Kotzebue 60-24 and beat Glennallen 42-30.

Nikiski, coming off a small-schools state football title just a week ago, finished ninth at the tourney and did not win a dual match.

Going undefeated from the Kenai Peninsula at the event were Skyview’s Austin Craig finishing 8-0 at 113, Skyview’s Seth Hutchison finishing 8-0 at 120, Skyview’s Sage Hill finishing 7-0 at 195, Homer’s Jordan Reynolds going 7-0 at 220 and Seward’s Howie Hubbard going 8-0 at 285.
