Karlsson named Star of Week, Butcher gets 2nd star

Albin Karlsson was named the Midwest Division Star of the Week by the North American Hockey League on Monday.

Fellow Kenai River forward, and Karlsson linemate, Alec Butcher was given the second star after the visiting Brown Bears swept the host Wenatchee (Wash.) Wild on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Kenai River leads the Midwest Division and has the most points in the NAHL.

Karlsson is a 19-year-old from Uppsala, Sweden, who already has committed to Division I school Niagara University.

Karlsson had six points on the weekend. Friday, he had two assists and scored in the shootout. Saturday, he had two more assists in a 3-1 win. In Sunday’s 4-3 win, Karlsson had the game-winning goal and added an assist. He finished plus-8 for the weekend and is now tied for 12th in the league with 15 points.

Butcher, 19, leads the league with 22 points. The Anchorage product had two goals Friday and scored in the shootout. Saturday, he had a goal and two assists before notching a goal and an assist Sunday.
