Area football players participate in North-South Classic

A number of area players participated in the North-South Football Classic on Saturday at The Dome in Anchorage. The games are a fundraiser to support Shriners Hospitals for Children.

All the Kenai Peninsula players were on the South team in the medium-small schools game.

The South team lost to the North, 40-30. Soldotna’s Colton Young was the offensive player of the game, while SoHi’s Jake Kooly was the defensive player of the game.

Soldotna coach Galen Brantley Jr., who coached the South team, said Kenai’s Jace Daniels had rushing and receiving touchdowns, while Kooly had over 150 yards rushing.

Also on the team were Tommy Johnson from Skyview, Joseph Cardoza from Homer, Nolan Scarlett from Kenai, Christian Tofson from Seward, and Blake Riley, Max Conradi, Austin Kruse, Daniel Rosin, Dylan Smith, Reese Roberts and Sam Deatherage from Soldotna.

Brantley Jr. said SoHi assistant Andrew Lepule also helped out with the South team. The coach said he normally only sends three or four players to the game, but sends them to the large-schools game. With Juneau and North Pole in the medium-small game, Brantley Jr. decided to send players to that game and it allowed him to get a bunch of seniors involved.
