Kenai Central hockey loses to West Valley; Eubank collects hat trick

The Kenai Central hockey team started a trip to Fairbanks with a 5-4 loss to West Valley on Thursday.

Jake Eubank had a hat trick for the Kardinals, but it was not enough.

Cody Arbelovsky started the scoring for Kenai on assists from Eubank and Dosko, then Eubank made it 2-0 on an assist from Nathan Zorbas. West Valley’s Cole Michaelis cut it to 2-1 before the end of the period. Logan Arpino and Ethan Daniels made it 3-2 before Eubank tied it with 1:23 left in the second on assists from Dosko and Michael Tilly. However, Stoshie Skorulski scored before the end of the second for the Wolfpack.

Eubank tied it with 10:08 left to play, but Skorulski had the game-winner with 6:03 left.

Kenai coach Pete Iverson said Justin Alvey was good in net, making 41 saves. Lane Wood had 16 for West Valley.

Kenai will stay in Fairbanks for the weekend, facing North Pole today at 3:15 p.m. and Lathrop on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

End of the Road Shootout

In the only game of the day at the End of the Road Shootout, Houston defeated Hutchison 5-2.

Juneau and Homer also were slated to play, but Juneau could not get a flight out of Juneau due to weather.

Today, Juneau and Houston play at 5 p.m., and Hutchison and Homer play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, it’s Hutchison vs. Juneau at 10 a.m., Houston vs. Homer at 12:30 p.m. and Juneau vs. Homer at 7 p.m.

Jon Ball had a goal and three assists, and Jon Lovelace had three goals and an assist to lead Houston. Aaron Allred made 24 saves for Houston, while Daniel Slone had 20 for Hutchison.
