Cooper, Fox ski to wins in Turkey Skate

65 skiers opened the Kenai Peninsula high school racing season with the Turkey Skate at the Tsalteshi Trails on Wednesday.

With good snow conditions making for fast trails, Kenai’s Travis Cooper edge Soldotna’s Levi Michael by one second in the boys varsity 6.5-kilometer race with a time of 17 minutes, 9 seconds.

In the girls varsity race, Soldotna’s Sadie Fox had an easier go of it, skiing to a time of 18:57, which was 1:49 faster than Skyview’s Mika Morton.

In the girls JV race, Olivia Hutchings of SoHi won with a time of 23:29, beating Kenai’s Katie Cooper by 41 seconds.

SoHi’s Skyler Diehl won the boys JV race in 20:56, finishing 2:09 ahead of his teammate Aaron Swedberg.
