Due to closures of the Mat-Su Valley and Anchorage School districts, Wasilla, Palmer and Colony were not able to send their hockey teams down to the Kenai Peninsula, meaning all three scheduled games were cancelled on Thursday.
Palmer was set to play Kenai Central at 4:30 p.m., Colony to play Soldotna at 6:45 p.m. and Wasilla to face Homer.
As of Thursday night, the revised schedule was to have Palmer and Kenai face off at noon, Colony and Soldotna at 2:30 p.m., Palmer and Soldotna at 6:15 p.m. and Colony against Kenai at 8:30 p.m., all at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.
On Saturday, the tentative schedule is for Soldotna and Wasilla to face off at 1 p.m. and Kenai and Wasilla at 6 p.m.
If the two school districts decide to close school again on Friday, the same policy will be enforced for the three hockey teams, as well for wrestling teams. Friday’s North-South Dual at Wasilla High School will be cancelled as well if school is closed. Kenai is planning on competing at the meet.
The closures could also deal a big blow to the Houston wrestling team, which is scheduled to compete at the Kachemak Conference tournament on Saturday at Nikiski High School. If classes are cancelled on Friday, then the weekend could be a complete wash for the Hawks, as the school districts would not allow the team to travel to the tournament.
