Kenai Central may have had the better performance at the season-opening tournaments, but Nikiski had the better teams Friday night.

The host Bulldogs swept a pair of endowment games from the Kards. The Kenai girls had won the Kenai River Challenge to open the season, while the Nikiski boys had lost 58-48 to the Kards at the SoHi Tip-Off.

In the girls game, the Nikiski girls overcame a first-quarter deficit for the 40-26 win.

The Kardinals led 10-6 after one period, but Nikiski went into halftime leading 14-13. The Bulldogs then posted a 26-13 advantage in the final half of the game.

Katie Costello paced Nikiski with 10 points, while Rachel Thompson had nine and Emily Lynch and Alyssa Darch had eight apiece.

For Kenai, Justice English pumped in 16 points.

In the boys game, the Bulldogs notched a 62-60 victory. Nikiski outscored Kenai 25-13 in the third quarter to jump to a 49-39 lead, but the Kards stormed back in the final period, outscoring Nikiski 21-13.
