Visiting Anchorage Christian Schools escaped with a 71-69 Southcentral Conference victory over Nikiski on Saturday.

Nikiski took a 21-15 lead after the first quarter, but ACS led 37-31 at halftime. Nikiski tied the game at 51 entering the final quarter, but ACS won the final eight minutes 20-18.

Trey Huckabey had 18 points for the Lions, while Mareng Gatkouth had 15 and Orlando Lozano added 10.

For Nikiski, Hunter Holloway and Nathan Carstens each had 19, while Cade Anderson had 18. The Bulldogs nailed 12 3-pointers in the game.

ACS girls 40, Nikiski 37

The visiting Lions stormed back in the fourth quarter to edge the Bulldogs in Southcentral Conference action Saturday.

Nikiski took a 32-27 lead into the final quarter before ACS closed with a 13-5 advantage.

Amir Williams had 15 for the Lions, while Jordan Todd had 10. For the Bulldogs, Brianna Vollertsen had 13.

Homer girls 54, Houston 39

The host Mariners kept rolling through their fabulous season, using a strong final quarter to dispatch the Hawks on Saturday and claim their 13th straight win.

Homer, which is ranked second among 3A girls teams in an online coaches poll, boosted its record to 5-0 in Southcentral Conference play and 18-2 overall.

Homer led 35-32 before a 19-7 finishing kick. Kayla Stafford had 14 for the Mariners, while Madison Akers had 13 and Aurora Waclawski added 12.

Kimberly Quincy had 13 for the Hawks.

Homer boys 61, Houston 44

After a slow start, the Mariners cruised to a Southcentral Conference victory Saturday.

Homer led 5-3 after one, 22-13 after two and 36-7 after three.

Koby Etzwiler paced the Mariners with 23, while Charles Rohr and Hunter Edens had 12 apiece.

Ben Bitler had 19 for the Hawks.

Grace Christian girls 31, Seward 24

The Grizzlies rallied back from an early deficit to snag a Southcentral Conference win Saturday night in Seward.

Hayley Hagen and Sarah Laker fueled Grace Christian with eight points each. Ayla Lapinskas led Seward with eight points.

Seward used stingy defensive play to open up a 6-2 lead after the first quarter, but Grace battled back by outscoring the Seahawks 12-8 and forge a 14-all tie at halftime. Grace led 21-19 after the third quarter, then seized control with a 10-5 fourth quarter effort.

Grace Christian boys 54, Seward 42

Trevor Osborne and Tobin Karlberg combined for 38 points to lead the Grizzlies past the Seahawks in Southcentral Conference action Saturday evening in Seward.

Osborne scored a game-high 21 points and Karlberg had 17. Seth Brewi led Seward with 15 points, all on triples.

After the first quarter ended in a 15-all tie, Grace outscored Seward 16-6 in the second frame to take a 31-21 lead into halftime. From there, the visiting squad held on by outscoring Seward 23-21 in the second half.

Unalakleet girls 68, CIA 13

The Cook Inlet Academy girls fell to Unalakleet in Saturday’s third-place game at the Susitna Valley Crowley Classic.

Nikiski girls 41, Houston 40

A free throw by Avery Kornstad provided the difference Friday night in Nikiski as the Bulldogs held on to win a Southcentral Conference clash over Houston.

A late triple by Makayla Moore — her only points of the game — nearly undid Nikiski’s efforts, but the Hawks could not overcome the 12-2 scoring effort by Nikiski in the third quarter. Houston rallied to outscore the Bulldogs 18-14 in the final eight minutes.

Kornstad and freshman Kelsey Clark fueled Nikiski with 12 points each. Kimberly Quincy led Houston with 15 points.

Nikiski boys 69, Houston 35

The Bulldogs shook off a previous night loss to Grace Christian with a resounding win Friday at home over Houston.

Nine of 10 Nikiski players scored, led by the 14 points by both Nathan Carstens and Hunter Holloway. Holloway was 7 for 10 from the foul line. Ian Johnson also added 13 points for the Bulldogs.

Houston’s Ben Bitler scored a game-high 20 points.

Homer girls 46, Grace 35

The host Mariners received 20 points from Madison Akers in turning back the Grizzlies.

Homer led 15-6 after the first quarter, but Grace cut it to 24-21 at halftime. Homer then won the third 12-5.

Aurora Waclawski added 13 for Homer, while Hayley Hagen had 10 points for Grace.

Grace boys 63, Homer 28

The Grizzlies cruised to a 63-28 Southcentral Conference victory Friday.

Trevor Osborne had 26 points for the Grizzlies, while Tobin Karlberg added 16. For Homer, Charles Rohr had 10.

ACS girls 47, Seward 37

The visiting Lions opened a big lead Friday so there was no threat when Seward won the fourth quarter 20-4.

Ayla Lapinskas paced the Seahawks with 14 points.

ACS boys 98, Seward 91, OT

The visiting Lions notched the Southcentral Conference win Friday in a dramatic shootout.

For Seward, Ronnie Jackson poured in 36 points, while Seth Brewi had 24, Thomas Zweifel had 11 and Johan Jacobson had 10.

CIA girls 45, Fort Yukon 36

The Cook Inlet Academy girls notched their first victory of the season Friday with a win over Fort Yukon at the Su-Valley Tournament north of Wasilla.

Adara Warren poured in 27 points to lead the Eagles, scoring 16 of the team’s 24 points in the second and third quarters.

CIA took a slim 20-19 lead into halftime, but outscored Fort Yukon 12-9 in the third quarter and 13-8 in the fourth to seal the win.

Seldovia boys 68, Lumen Christi 25

The Sea Otters grabbed a Peninsula Conference win Friday night over the Archangels in Anchorage.

The trio of David Butero, Aidan Philpot and Calem Collier combined to score 56 points for Seldovia. Butero and Philpot both notched 21 points while Collier had 14.

Seldovia opened the game on a 14-6 scoring run en route to leading 21-15 at halftime. The Sea Otters then outscored Lumen Christi 37-10 in the second half to cruise to the win.

Lumen Christi girls 60, Seldovia 29

Nyadong Puoy racked up 23 points to lead the Archangels to a Peninsula Conference win Friday over the Sea Otters in Anchorage.

Marina Chissus led Seldovia with 14 points.

Lumen scored 22 first-quarter points and led 32-13 at the halftime break. Lumen then outscored Seldovia 20-9 in the third quarter to ice the contest.
