Ninilchik hoops sweep

The Ninilchik hoops teams picked up a pair of victories Wednesday night in Ninilchik.

 

The girls team knocked off the Soldotna JV squad with a 35-27 win, while the boys topped Kodiak ESS 44-39.

Jessica Rogers led the Wolverines with 17 points in the girls game, leading the charge in the third quarter along with Melissa Clark, who added nine. Rogers and Clark had all 12 of Ninilchik’s points in the quarter.

Alexis Smith had nine points — all in the fourth quarter — for the SoHi JV, who attempted a late comeback, outscoring Ninilchik 13-5 in the fourth.

The Ninilchik boys held off the Kodiak Emerging Small Schools (ESS) by outscoring the Bears 15-12 in the fourth quarter. Ninilchik led 29-27 heading into the quarter.

Tyler Presley came up big for the Wolverines with 22 points — 14 in the second half. Ninilchik actually trailed 21-19 at halftime, but managed to take in the lead in the third quarter by holding Kodiak ESS to only six points.
