Saturday at the Southcentral Tournament

The Anchorage Christian Schools girls basketball team defended its Southcentral Conference crown Saturday with a 69-31 victory over Nikiski at Cordova High School.

Nikiski still qualifies for its first state berth since 2009.

The Bulldogs trailed just 8-7 after one quarter when ACS star Dallas Dickerson sat for a good chunk of the first quarter with foul trouble.

Dickerson returned and helped the Lions take command of the game. She scored 11 of her 24 points as the Lions took a 29-13 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, Dickerson scored 11 points again and ACS led 55-23 heading into the fourth quarter. Brynn Tennyson added 12 points for ACS.

For Nikiski, Rachel Thompson led the way with eight points.

The results of the boys championship was not available as the Clarion went to press.

Seward girls 35, Grace 12

The Seahawks pitched a shutout in the second half to wrap up a fourth-straight berth to the Class 3A state tournament by taking third place.

Seward led 17-12 at halftime, but owned the second frame to an 18-0 tune.

Laura Kromrey nearly took care of the Grizzlies herself, pouring in 21 points. Nobody else in the game had more than six points.

Houston boys 39, Homer 35

The Hawks held off the Mariners in the final quarter to make it a clean sweep of the state berths for the Northern Division.

Houston led 9-8 after one quarter in this third-place game and 20-14 at halftime. The Hawks expanded the lead to 31-18 after three before the Mariners mounted a comeback.

Matt Barron had 20 points to lead Houston, while Kenneth Schneider had 12 for Homer.

Homer boys 48, Skyview 43, OT

The Mariners overcame the Panthers in extra time to make their way into the third-place game. The loss ends the Panthers’ final season.

The game was close throughout, with Skyview trailing 23-19 at halftime. Homer had a 13-8 edge in overtime.

Kenneth Schneider had 22 points for the Mariners, including seven in overtime. Sheldon Hutt added 12.

For Skyview, Tim Duke had 21 and Micah Hilbish added 13.

Seward girls 36, Skyview 20

After a tight first quarter, the Seahawks pulled away to gain the third-place game and end Skyview’s final season.

The game was tied at 8 after one, but Seward led 19-12 at the half and 26-14 after three quarters.

Ashley VonBorstel had 13 points for Seward, while Laura Kromrey had 10 points. For Skyview, Sam Reynolds led the way with eight.

Houston boys 67, Seward 54

The Hawks moved into the third-place game and ended Seward’s season in a foul-filled affair.

Houston led 13-6 after the first period, but Seward cut it to 28-26 at halftime before Houston led 43-31 after three quarters.

In the fourth quarter, Houston was 11 of 15 from the line while Seward was 8 of 10. Three fouled out for Seward while one fouled out for Houston.

Matt Barron had 20 for the Hawks, while Matthew Moore had 20 for Seward. Michael Marshall and Ronnie Jackson added 10 for Seward.

Grace girls 40, Homer 28

The Grizzlies ended the season of the Mariners in the third-place semifinals.

Grace led 21-10 at halftime. Homer cut it to 27-23 after three, but Grace controlled the final eight minutes.

Rachel Dunagan had 10 points for the Grizzlies, while Aurora Waclawski had 10 for Homer.
