Duwe plays big role for UAA

Soldotna High School and Kenai River Brown Bears product Brad Duwe had the game-winning goals Friday and Saturday as the University of Alaska Anchorage defeated the University of Alaska Fairbanks in the first round of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs.

UAA, which won the series 2-1, advances to the WCHA Final Five on March 21 and 22 in Grand Rapids, Mich.

All three games of the series were played at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks.

On Saturday, the series finished up with a wild game. After a scoreless first period, the score was tied at 4 with 2 minutes, 45 seconds, left in regulation when Duwe registered the winning goal in the 5-4 victory. Blake Tatchell and Jordan Kwas got the assists.

On Friday, UAA kept its season alive with a 2-1 win over Fairbanks.

The game was tied at 1 early in the second period when Duwe tapped home a rebound from a Tatchell shot for the game-winner. The goal came 4:27 into the second period.

On Thursday, UAA fell to UAF 3-2 in overtime. In video review after the game, Duwe also was credited with a goal in that contest.
