The Skyview softball team was swept by host Kodiak on Friday and Saturday in Northern Lights Conference play.

With a 17-4 loss Saturday and an 11-1 loss Friday, Skyview drops to 1-2 in the conference and 2-5 overall. Kodiak is 5-1 in the conference and 5-5 overall.

Saturday’s game went five innings.

Sam Reynolds was 3 for 3 with a run, while Cat Schoessler was 2 for 3. Bree Lahndt, Mykaela Ryback, Jessie Lester and Kristen May added hits.

“We hit a little better, but we’re not making as much contact as we should,” Skyview coach Steve Schoessler said. “We had eight strikeouts last night and eight strikeouts today.

“I’ve never had a team with eight strikeouts before in three years. There’s something going on with the bats and we’ve got to figure it out.”

Reynolds took the loss on the mound.

Skyview travels to Homer on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game.

Kodiak 11, Skyview 1

On Friday, the Bears notched a conference win over the Panthers.

After walking the first two Skyview hitters, Kodiak pitcher Kaia Yatsik settled down and retired the next 11 batters.

Skyview’s Aubrey Rodriguez had the lone run for the Panthers, reaching on an error and scoring on a ground out by Lester. May had the lone hit for the Panthers.

Reynolds took the loss on the mound, striking out two and walking four.

The Bears had nine hits and Skyview made six errors.

“We had more errors than we’ve had all year,” Schoessler said. “We played like we stepped off the ferry and played. No excuses. We didn’t rise to the occasion.”

Kodiak 13, Kenai 0

On Friday, the Bears cruised past Kenai in a game shortened to four innings, dropping the Kards to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Kaia Yatsik had a three-run double for the Bears, and also struck out six and walked none in picking up the victory on the mound. Also for Kodiak, Kaitlyn Clark had three singles and drove in a pair of runs.

Kenai’s three hits came from Shannon Evans, Christina Glenzel and Alyson Quartly. Havan Shaginoff took the loss on the mound.

Kodiak 15, Kenai 0

On Saturday, Yatsik blanked the Kardinals again as Kenai fell to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the league.

The game lasted three innings and Yatsik kept the Kards without a hit. Alyson Quartly took the loss for the Kards.
