Weekend baseball roundup

The Kenai Central baseball team was swept by host Kodiak in Northern Lights Conference play this weekend.

The Kards lost 10-5 on Friday and 11-1 on Saturday.

On Saturday, Kodiak grabbed a 6-0 lead after two innings and cruised to a five-inning victory.

Paul Steffensen, Dallas Pierren and Miles Jones had the hits for the Kards, while Pierren scored the lone run.

Pierren pitched the first four innings, giving up eight earned runs on eight hits. He walked two and struck out three.

Tyler Jester led Kodiak with a pair of hits. Alex Pace pitched all five innings, giving up just an unearned run.

Kodiak 10, Kenai 5

The Bears notched a Northern Lights Conference victory on Friday.

Pierren finished 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI for Kenai, while Steffensen was 2 for 4 with a run.

For Kodiak, Myles Wilson, Austin Frick, Jester and Josiah Chya all had two hits, part of a 12-hit attack. Jester scored three runs and had two RBIs, while Pace had two RBIs and Chya had three RBIs.

Miles Jones took the loss on the mound, going 5 2-3 innings and giving up 12 hits and 10 runs, eight earned. Zack Selinger recorded the other out on the mound.

Homer boys 9, Soldotna 7

Tommy Bowe had a two-run home run with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to give the visiting Mariners an NLC victory Saturday.

Homer entered the seventh inning trailing 7-5, but got four runs to take the lead.

Soldotna (0-4) got two runners on in the bottom of the seventh, but could not move them around.

Klayton Justice pitched the full game for Soldotna.

“I probably made a mistake leaving him in in that last inning, but he’s a tough kid and I thought he could get out of it,” Soldotna coach George Stein said.

SoHi led 5-0 after the first inning. Justice Miller had a two-run home run for Soldotna, while Justice also had a hit that scored two.

“We hit the ball halfway decent, we just left a lot on base,” Stein said.
