Bird Homestead Golf Report: Course spruced up for Quilters Tourney

Any weather is good golf weather. With the mixture of rain and sunshine, it is perfect for a round of mosquito-free golf at Bird Homestead Golf Course.

The course is looking better than ever, as the crew prepares for the upcoming Funny River Quilters tournament. Larry Hamilton and his crew have put in long hours maintaining and perfecting the course and boy does that hard work show. You can see the pristine greens, well cut tee boxes and finely mowed fairways from miles away.

Ladies Night

Fourteen dynamic and dazzling women showed up for a night of fun at the course last Wednesday. There is never a dull moment when the ladies take over the course for an evening.

The powerhouse Sissy Bird won longest drive on hole No.9. Connie Orth hit her putt with such precision that she was able to sink an incredible 220-inch putt on hole No.7. Oh, and did I mention her chip-in? Yes, Connie also chipped in on hole no.9, helping her team get a birdie on that hole.

At the end of the night, the scores were counted and two teams ended up with the same low score of 42. How was the problem solved to determine first place? A chip-off. The team of Susan Ellis, Elaine Taylor and Sissy Bird won the chip-off, and took first place leaving the team of Kelsey Slough, Dotty Hackett and Connie Orth to settle for second.

Come join our fun every Wednesday night at 6:30.

Men’s Night

The rain and hail did not stop the men from having a night of fun without the ladies. Men’s night had a great turnout of 17 men. The winning team of Greg Harrington, Rob Robertson and Terry Johnson finished at 3 under par.

Steve Skolnick stepped up to hole No.6 thinking about only accuracy, and won himself closest to the pin. Long drive on hole No.3 was won by Aaron Blackburn. Steve Tachick zoned in his golf game and won a pure birdie. Mike Fastabend hit a stellar tee shot on hole No. 8, winning closest to the pin. Men’s night is every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
