This next weekend the Kenai Golf Course will hold the annual Memorial Tournament in honor of those who have passed. We would like to pay a special tribute to: Shirley Morgan, Donnie Morgan, Butch Anderson, Rita Botelho, Bill Gruenveld, Bill Zubeck, and George Navarre. It is indeed special to sit around and tell stories about these unforgettable people who contributed so much to the Kenai Golf Course over the years. They are part of our history and will always remain in our thoughts. The tournament will be held June 28th and 29th and is a stroke-play handicap event. Tee times start at 10:00 a.m. If you would like to participate, contact the clubhouse at 283-7500.
We would like to welcome the Central Peninsula Habitat for Humanity to the Kenai Golf Course. The tournament is August 9th with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Entry fees are $75 per person, which goes to a wonderful cause. The event is a four person scramble format. There will be a continental breakfast and a putting contest starting at 8 a.m. Entry fees for the putting contest are $5. Really great prizes will be at stake for the first, second, and third-place finishing teams. Many door prizes will also be available. The 2014 Peninsula Jackpot, hosted by the Kenai and Birch Ridge Golf Courses, was held this past weekend. This is a great event that benefits the junior golf course programs at both courses. The team of Max Dye and CJ Henley won Low Net with a score of 129 for the two days. Rene Alvarez and Charlie Rehder were second with a net score of 130. Shane Sundoerg and David Crawford finished third with a net score of 132. In the Gross Division, Adam Baxter and Greg Sanders finished first with a gross score of 139. Kevin Daniels and Paul Blanche finished second with a score of 140. Rene Alvarez finished third with a 142 total. Congratulations to everyone who participated in this event. The Junior Golf Program at both courses appreciates your contributions.
On June 14th the Eleventh Annual Kenai Elks Golf Tournament was held at the Kenai Golf Course. Many thanks to Jack Focose and the Elks Lodge for a great tournament. Net winners for this tournament include We Raft Alaska for first place with a net score of 56. Second place was won by Atigun, Inc., with a score of 57. XTO No. 2 finished third with a score of 59. In the Gross Division, first place was won by Stanley Ford with a gross score of 60. Second place was taken by Louie’s Back Door Lounge with a 63. GLM Corporation finished third with a score of 64. James Vogler won the drawing for a new set of Callaway Golf Clubs. Congratulations, James!

This past Tuesday, Tesoro held the first of their four scramble tournaments at the Kenai Golf Course. The team of Jim Grossl, Andy Kircher, and James Lankford finished first with a score of even par. The team of James Tangaro, Phillip Carpenter, and Barry Brewer finished second with a score of +1. Chris Stanley, Matt Brown, and Reid Massey finished third with a score of +2. Closest of the Pin on No. 10 was won by Barry Brewer. No. 14 was won by Andy Kircher, and the Long Drive on No. 16 was also won by Andy Kircher. Many thanks to Barry Brewer for organizing this fun golf event.
Senior League June 10th
Jesse Wade won Low Gross with a score of 39. Great round, Jesse! Low Net was won by Bill Davis with a 33. Closest to the Pin on hole No. 4 second shot was won by Dana Bassel. Skip Davoe won the only skin on hole No. 9. Thanks you, Skip, for stepping up to the tee and orgainizing this event.
Senior League June 17th
Low Gross was won by Bill Davis with a score of 41. Low Net was won by Jesse Wade with a net score of 39. There were three skins out in his event and they were won by Pat Bowen, Dwight Kramer, and Noel Widmeyer.
Ladies’ League June 19th
Low Gross was won by Lisa Bjork. Putting door prizes were won by Sheila Phillips and Lisa Bjork.

The next clinic for ladies is the Intermediate On-Course Clinic, 6 to 8 p.m. on June 26th and 27th. There is still room available for women who would like to improve on-course play. Cost is $30 and contact the clubhouse to sign up.
A Ladies Beginning Golfer Clinic will be offered July 7th, 8th, and 9th, from 6 to 8 p.m. It focuses on the basics and on Wednesday, the ladies play golf with carts provided.
The next Junior Golf Clinic is July 28th, 29th and 30th, from 6 to 8 p.m. It is open to kids ages seven to 14 and is taught by Tommy Carver. Class fee is $20.
