The American Legion Twins won three of four games on Friday and Saturday in Kodiak, and one of the two league contests.

That puts the Twins at 7-5 in the league and 10-5 overall.

Friday, the Twins won the league game 6-5 before winning the nonleague contest 7-4.

In the nine-inning league contest, the Twins grabbed a 2-1 lead in their half of the sixth, but Kodiak had a 5-2 lead after seven innings. The Twins struck twice in the eighth and ninth innings to pull out the win. Hector A. Rivera had the game-winning RBI in the ninth.

Tommy Bowe paced the Twins on offense by finishing 3 for 4 with a run and three RBIs, including a home run.

On the mound, Dallas Pierren did most of the work, going seven innings, giving up two hits and two earned runs while walking four and striking out seven.

Klayton Justice went one inning, allowing two runs and three hits. Darrow went the last inning, allowing one hit and no runs.

In Friday’s late game, the Twins jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings and held on for the seven-inning victory.

Kodiak helped the Twins to the seven runs. Starter John Norton walked seven, and just four of the seven runs he gave up were earned. Mason Prior and Klayton Justice scored twice for the Twins.

Joey Becher did most of the work on the mound, pitching 4 2-3 innings and giving up three hits and an earned run while walking six and striking out three.

“It was a good opportunity for our younger players to work and they did a good job,” Twins coach Hector Rivera said.

Saturday, the Twins dropped the league game 8-4 before winning 17-10 in the nightcap. In Saturday’s seven-inning league contest, the Twins scored three runs in the first, but Kodiak had an 8-3 lead by the end of the fifth.

“We just couldn’t hit the ball,” Rivera said.

Kenny Griffin scored a pair of runs to lead the Twins. But Kodiak got after Griffin on the mound, as he gave up 7 hits and five runs — four earned — in three innings of work.

In Saturday’s seven-inning late game, the Twins trailed 7-2 after five innings, but erupted for seven runs in the sixth and eight runs in the seventh to cruise to victory.

“They kind of woke up, and we again took advantage of some of their mistakes. Every time they threw a strike we hit the ball,” Rivera said.

Justice led the 12-hit attack by going 3 for 6 with two runs and three RBIs, while Prior was 2 for 4 with three runs. Pierren, Bowe and Darrow each had two runs and two RBIs, while Justin Wisnewski had two RBIs.

Matthew Daugherty handled most of the work on the mound, going four innings and giving up one hit and two unearned runs.

“All the young guys started that game, then in the fifth inning we made some changes,” Rivera said. “We didn’t want to make the trip back seem even longer than it has to be.”

The Twins jump into the Bill Miller Big Fish Wood Bat Tournament on Tuesday, playing Vermont at 4 p.m. at Coral Seymour Memorial Park and following that by playing Tennessee at 7 p.m. at the same place.
