The Kenai River Wolfpack Rugby Football Club hosted its annual Between the Tides Dipnet Tournament on Saturday in Kenai.

The tournament is so named because the event allows players to get a few fish, as well as a few matches, on the trip to the Kenai Peninsula.

The men’s title was won by Bore Tide of Anchorage, while the women’s crown went to Arctic Fox of Anchorage.

The men played 10 to a side. There were three men’s teams. They played a round-robin tourney, with the two top teams advancing to the championship game.

The other two men’s teams in the tournament were Arctic Legion, of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, and a combined Kenai-Fairbanks squad.

The scores in the round-robin were Bore Tide 24, Arctic Legion 17; Arctic Legion 27, Kenai-Fairbanks 10; and Bore Tide 27, Kenai-Fairbanks 5.

In the championship match, Bore Tide won 29-10 over Arctic Legion.

There were two women’s teams at the tournament — Arctic Fox of Anchorage and the Fairbanks Ravens.

Those two squads played three times, with the Ravens winning the first match 14-7, but Arctic Fox coming back to win the next two matches 27-10 and 22-5.

The day ended with a friendly, social, coed match with 15 players on each side.

Victor Rodriguez had a solid day for the Wolfpack, with three tries, while Trent Buning had two tries.

A try is worth five points and is scored when the ball is grounded in the other team’s in-goal area.
