Panners win Game 1 of ABL title series

The Alaska Goldpanners showed the Mat-Su Miners the kind of offense that has carried them to the Alaska Baseball League’s best overall regular season record in 2014 by routing the Miners 14-0 in Game 1 of the ABL Championship series, Tuesday at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage.

The Goldpanners had 21 hits to the Miners’ seven, led by Cody Nulph, who went 4 for 5 with two RBI and a double. Tanner Pinkston, Jacob Hayes and Eric Hutting each contributed three hits as well. Vahn Bozoian batted in three runs.

Mike Benson got the win on the hill, going six scoreless innings with six hits, two walks and five strikeouts.

The two teams will get a doubleheader in today, starting with Game 2 of the best-out-of-3 game series at 4 p.m. at Mulcahy. If necessary, Game 3 is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
