Bird Homestead Golf Report: Crew battles through rainy conditions

Posted: August 14, 2014 - 10:24pm

Although the weather has been ugly, Larry Hamilton and his crew have been working through the rain every day to maintain the course. Bird Homestead Golf Course is looking amazing. Don’t let the rain stop you from coming out. The true, diehard golfer golfs through anything. We have carts to rent to keep you sheltered while playing, and we also have hot soup from the kitchen waiting for when you return.

Ladies night

Last Wednesday night we had an amazing time. The MVP of the evening was Faith Link. For the past 16 weeks no lady on Wednesday night has hit the green on hole No.8. Faith accomplished just that last week. She hit her tee shot an incredible 27 feet, 5 inches, away from the pin and went home with a hefty pot of winnings. The first place team was the pair of Susan Ellis and Kelsey Slough, with a score of 39. On hole No. 2 Kelsey had a smashing drive winning her longest drive.

Ladies night is every Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m., rain or shine. All ladies experienced golfers or not, are welcome to join the fun. Ladies night is all about getting away from the men for the evening and just having fun.

Men’s Night

Although the weather was a bit ugly we still had a great turnout of 31 men show up for men’s night. After all eight teams came in, we had a three-way tie with a score of 34. After the legendary chip-off, the team on top was the team of Roy Bird, Bruce Skolnick, Steve Ellis and Marty Slade. In second place was the team of Brandon Wold, Rob Robertson, Aaron Blackburn and Jeff Gillman.

On hole No. 4 Scott Sundberg found his strength and hit a long and accurate tee shot, winning him longest drive. Sean Rose carried his team on hole No. 2 by getting a pure birdie. On hole No. 6, Tom Sigurdsson found the green, winning him closest to the pin. Mike Fastabend also found the green on his tee shot on No.8 and won closest to the pin.

Men’s night is every Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.
