Soldotna netters take Silver Bracket at Dimond-Service

The Soldotna volleyball team won the Silver Bracket on Saturday at the Dimond/Service 2014 Volleyball Tournament.

The Stars defeated Mt. Edgecumbe 25-21 and 26-24 in the finals. SoHi had made its way into the finals by topping Grace Christian 25-15 and 25-15. The day started for the Stars with a 27-25, 20-25 and 15-10 victory over Colony.

Hayley Ramsell made the all-tournament team for the Stars.

Kenai Central finished tied for third in the Silver Bracket. The Kards began Saturday by topping Nikiski 25-21 and 25-21, but then fell to Mt. Edgecumbe 25-15 and 25-18.

Nikiski ended up tying for third in the consolation portion of the Silver Bracket, losing to Thunder Mountain 26-24 and 25-18 after the opening loss to the Kards.

Seward won consolation in the Bronze Bracket. The Seahawks started by losing to Lathrop 25-15 and 25-15 before beating North Pole 25-20, 12-25 and 15-5 for the consolation prize.

The Stars were 4-4 in Friday’s pool play. SoHi split with Palmer 16-25 and 25-18, topped Seward 25-10 and 25-17, lost to West Valley 27-25 and 25-12 and split with Chugiak 21-25 and 25-20.

Kenai also finished 4-4 in pool play, beating Thunder Mountain 25-16 and 25-20, losing to Dimond 25-14 and 25-16, beating Lathrop 25-22 and 25-8 and losing to Bartlett 25-21 and 25-21.

Nikiski was 2-6 in pool play. The Bulldogs topped North Pole 25-16 and 25-18 before losing to Service 25-14 and 25-16, Grace 26-24 and 25-18, and Kodiak 25-21 and 25-15.

Seward was 1-7 in pool play. The Seahawks earned a 11-25 and 26-24 split with West Valley, but lost to Soldotna 25-10 and 25-17, Palmer 25-12 and 25-15, and Chugiak 25-14 and 25-7.
