Grace Christian swept Homer in three games Thursday night in a Southcentral Conference matchup in Homer.

The Grizzlies won with scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-23.

After suffering a slow start, the Mariners came back to tie the first set up at 22 apiece, but Grace finished strong with three straight points to take a 1-0 match lead.

Homer coach Beth Trowbridge said her squad struggled with offense in the second set, but came back strong in Game 3, taking a large lead. Unfortunately, hitting errors erased much of that lead, as Homer gave up a total of 22 points in the match on hitting mistakes and an additional 12 with blocking errors.

McKi Needham led Homer with eight aces and 13 assists, while Larsen Fellows added five aces and seven kills, Kyla Pitzman notched five kills and Jane Rohr had two aces.

Seward 3, Houston 0

Seward dominated the court Thursday night in Seward, completing a three-game sweep on Southcentral Conference opponent Houston with scores of 25-10, 25-14 and 25-5.

“This is good for us rolling into regions next week,” said Seward coach Jamie Frederickson. “We’ve gotta have that mindset.”

Seward (4-7 in conference play) was led by Carri Anderson, who had six kills on 11 hits. Frederickson said that Houston was virtually unable to pick up and return Anderson’s hits. Libero Paige Carter-Kurtz added two aces, and Chloe Baldwin notched four kills.

“I made a point to my team of earning points, rather than letting the other team give us points,” Frederickson said.
