Friday night saw a rare 3-3 tie in North Star Conference hockey action between the Soldotna Stars and the Palmer Moose at the MTA Events Center in Palmer.

Trailing 2-1 after two periods, SoHi put on an offensive surge with a pair of quick goals from Ethan Brown and Galen Brantley III, putting the Stars ahead with 3:06 left to play in the game.

However, Palmer tied it up with just seven seconds left on the clock on a wild scramble in front of the net and slotting it in with a shot from Jaron Ketterman, who finished with three points (two goals, one assist).

In the eight-minute overtime period, Palmer outshot Soldotna 8-0, but the Moose failed to score on goalie Billy Yoder, who finished with 30 saves on 33 shots.

“It was a great, exciting game, and it’s something the boys can build on,” said SoHi coach Derek Urban. “We have the opportunity to leave here with one more point that last time.”

SoHi moved their North Star Conference record to 1-1-1 and overall mark to 6-2-1 with the tie.

After a scoreless first period, Palmer got on the board first with a goal from Ketterman, but just 66 seconds later, Braxton Urban tied it up with a strike of his own for SoHi. Chase Rosenberg put Palmer ahead again late in the period.

In the third frame, Brown took an assist from Trevor Witthus to tie it up with 4:52 left to play, then Brantley III scored the go-ahead goal soon after by beating out a defender on a rush to the goal.

The Warriors blasted the Kardinals in North Star Conference action Friday night at Brett Memorial Ice Arena in Wasilla.

After staking out a 4-2 lead in the first period, Wasilla scored six times in the second frame to ice the victory. In the end, Alex Engan notched five goals, Russell Harren had five points on three goals and two assists, Austin Stevens had five points on four assists, and Alex Clark added four assists.

Levi Mese scored both of Kenai’s goals in the first period. With the loss, the Kards fell to 0-3 in the conference, 2-7 overall.
