Peninsula Fighting Championships return to sports complex

The Peninsula Fighting Championships are back.

For the first time since May 2014, the Peninsula Fighting Championships will return to the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.

Mat Plant, the producer of the event, said the show will feature between eight and 10 fights Saturday. The doors open at 6 p.m., while the fights begin at 7 p.m.

“I can’t honestly tell you why it’s been gone for so long,” Plant said. “A lot of little details go into producing these events.

“We’re excited because the community has really stepped up and given us a lot of support for the event.”

When shows happen, they are usually well attended. And Plant expects the same thing Saturday.

“Everywhere I go, people are talking about it,” he said.

Plant said he thinks people are drawn to the overall experience of the event.

“As much as it’s athletic competition, it’s also the entertainment business,” he said. “A bunch of friends get together for a night of drinking and fights, there are pretty girls, it’s something this town doesn’t always get.

“You can always go to the movies and bars, but this is a rare thing we get.”

General admission is $20, while admission to the beer garden, for those 21 and older, is $25. There also will be a wall of guns fundraiser by Sportsman’s Warehouse. Tickets are $10, and for every 100 tickets sold a name will be pulled and somebody will win a gun.

Plant said that the Peninsula Fighting Championships will not take as big of a hiatus this time. He said he would like the fights to start happening once every other month, with a break for the summer months where being inside is not as desirable.
