Cook Inlet Academy swept Ninilchik in a pair of Peninsula Conference matchups Tuesday night in Ninilchik.

The CIA boys defeated Ninilchik 76-54, while the CIA girls topped the Wolverines 35-27.

Timmy Smithwick dropped a game-high 41 points for the CIA boys, who avenged a loss to Ninilchik in January. Smithwick’s freshman brother, Johnny, chipped in 10 points as well.

Sam Mireles led Ninilchik with 19 points, and teammate Austin White added 17.

The Wolverines led early with a 14-13 lead, but the Eagles rebounded with a 22-point second quarter to lead 35-30 at halftime.

CIA led 52-45 after three quarters, then outscored Ninilchik 24-9 in the fourth to ice the game.

Senior captains Madison Orth and Ashleigh Hammond combined for 31 points to propel the CIA girls to the win over conference opponent Ninilchik.

Orth scored a game-high 20 points, while Hammond netted 11. Melissa Ehlers led Ninilchik with 12 points, and went 7-for-8 from the free throw line.

After scoring only three points in the opening quarter of play, CIA trailed Ninilchik 16-14 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Eagles outscored the Wolverines 12-5 to take the lead and held off Ninilchik the rest of the way.

CIA coach Kenny Leaf said with Danielle Hills back on the court, after missing a few weeks with an injury, the CIA defense is a much more efficient unit, and the results showed it. Ninilchik scored only 11 points in the second half.
