Homer softball defeats Kenai

The Homer softball team opened up the season and Northern Lights Conference play with a 21-0 victory over Kenai Central in 2 1-2 innings on Tuesday in Homer.

The Kardinals fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the league with the loss.

McKi Needham and Pam Jantzi combined to keep the Kardinals from getting a runner on base. Needham pitched two innings and struck out one, while Jantzi pitched an inning and struck out two.

Maggie LaRue led the Mariners at the plate by going 3 for 3 with three runs and an RBI. Jantzi also was 2 for 3 with a run and two RBIs.

Also for Homer, which banged out 12 hits total, Needham had three runs, Kayla Stafford had three runs, Larsen Fellows had three runs, Mary Hanna Bowe had three runs and Kelly Liebers scored twice.

Kyah Doughty, Liebers and Jantzi added a pair of RBIs for the Mariners.
