The Kenai softball team dropped a pair of nonconference games in a weekend road trip to the Matanuska-Susitna valleys.

The Kardinals lost 16-2 to Colony on Friday in three innings, and 13-1 to Wasilla on Saturday in four innings. Kenai’s record is 1-6 overall.

In Friday’s game, Cierra King pitched all three innings. Kenai had nine errors, meaning seven of the runs were earned.

Emily Koziczkowski was 2 for 2, while Ashley Maxson also was 2 for 2. Also at the plate, Alyssa Herr was 1 for 2 and Darcy Blue had a double and an RBI.

In the loss to Wasilla, Kassie Lindsley pitched the entire game and gave up seven earned runs. She also was 1 for 1.

Also on offense, Koziczkowski had a triple, Maxson had two bunt singles and an RBI, and Blume was 1 for 1.

The Kards left six girls stranded mainly because they kept popping out. Kenai had seven fly-ball outs in just four innings.

Kenai coach Mark King said his team played really well in the final three innings against Wasilla.

He also said Darcy Blume had a great weekend at short, at one point ranging behind third to throw out the batter.

The Kards travel to face Soldotna at 6 p.m. Thursday.
