The Soldotna softball team ended its season with a pair of losses in Kodiak over the weekend.

The Stars, who finished 1-5 in the Northern Lights Conference, could have finished second in the league and earned a state berth with a sweep of the Bears.

Friday, SoHi lost 7-6. Emily Jackson pitched the whole game for SoHi, giving up three earned runs and striking out three while walking none.

“It was impressive for a freshman to get off the boat and pitch like that,” Soldotna coach Kelli Knoebel said.

SoHi scored four runs in the third to take a 5-4 lead, but Kodiak tied the game in the third, then went up 6-5. Olivia Farrell had a double to score Ila Cobb and tie the game, but Kodiak would take advantage of a mistake for the victory.

Farrell finished 2 for 4, while Carlin Meyer was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and Jazi Larrow had two RBIs.

Saturday, the Stars lost 16-1 in four innings. Cobb, a senior, finished her career by going 2 for 2 and playing strong in the field.

Even as the score got lopsided, Knoebel said seniors Emma Landeis, Mikayla Miller and Hannah Mayo did not give up.

“The seniors have been a rock for this team,” Knoebel said. “They provided motivation, energy and a never-say-die attitude.”
