Other notable low nets were turned in by Doug Jung with an 81, Greg Harrington with a 78, Bob Sizemore with a 77, Gary Brumley with a 76, and Kirk Hyman with a 77.

The Low Gross winner was Tommy Carver with a great score of 78, followed by Chris Morin with an 80, Jessie Wade with an 81, John Woodland with an 82, and Todd Eskelin with a 79. Congratulations to all. Closest to the Pin was won by Mike Kebschull on hole 5 with a great shot of 2 feet, 3 inches. Hole 9 was won by Rene Alvarez with a shot of 21 feet. Greg Harrington won hole 10 with a shot of 5 feet, 11 inches, and John Woodland won hole 14 with a shot of 19 feet, 8 inches. Skins for this event were won by Jessie Wade with two, Bob Sizemore, Chuck Rupenthal, Mike Houghton, Pat Bowen, and Keith Stasek each with one skin. Many thanks to our tournament director and KGA president Kirk Hyman. Mr. Hyman has done an outstanding job as president of the KGA. He has introduced many new programs which included funding for the junior program and Hook-a-Kid-on-Golf. When you see Kirk, please thank him for all his hard work. I am sure he can use some help, so if you are a KGA member and have the time to help, let him know.

Senior League: May 19 results — 15 seniors took to the course. Low Gross was won by Dwight Kramer with a 45. Low Net was won by Skip Dove with a 37. Second Low Net winners were Dana Bassel and Pat Bowen with 46’s. Jesse Wade won third Low Net with a 48. Closest to the Pin on hole 10 was won by Skip Dove.

Senior League: May 26 results — Thirteen players participated in this 9-hole event. Low Gross was won by Ron Frison with a 39. There was a tie for Low Net winner between Bobby Bush and Gary Brumley each with a 33. Second Low Net was won by Dwight Kramer with a 36. Third Low Net was won by Ron Frison with a net of 37. Thank you, Jerry Norris, for continuing to run our most successful senior program. To join this event you must have an established handicap and be at least 50 years old. This league plays on Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m.

Ladies Leagues start this week. Choose to play Thursdays at 12:30 p.m., Tuesdays at 6 p.m., or both! Nine holes of great golf, play your own ball, win the mystery game. Debbie Griffin runs the afternoon group, while Lara Griffin heads the evening league. You do not need to have a handicap to play.

Mens Night also begins this Thursday at 6 p.m. The men usually play a 9-hole scramble with drawn teams. Mark Azarra has collected some great door prizes for participants. Of course there will be chili!

Adult-Junior League is brand new this year and KGA is picking up the greens fees for all juniors so they play free! Teams are comprised of two juniors and two adults. It is a 9-hole event that is Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. Jerry Norris is heading this league.

Beginning Golfer Ladies Clinics: The first Ladies Clinic of the season has begun and it’s a great success. Our next three Beginner Clinics are July 7 through 9, July 21 through 23, and August 11 through 13. All clinics are held 6 to 8 p.m. These clinics are for women who are beginning golfers or who would like a good review of basic golf skills.

Intermediate Ladies Clinic is just around the corner. The first one is June 26 and 27, 6 to 8 p.m. There is also one scheduled for July 14 and 15. This clinic got raves last year. Ladies learn to get on the green from 125, 100, 75, 50, and 25-yard distances. Short game improvement was incredible during the previous clinics.

The Kenai Golf Course is in excellent condition. The greens are in great shape and will continue to improve. The tee boxes have been plugged, overseeded, and fertilized, and they are responding exceedingly well. We are now on all eighteen greens. The fairways on 15 and 16 are dry and looking great. The project on hole 3 is nearing completion. Crushed rock is now being placed on top of the gravel cart path. Thanks you so much for your positive feedback on this project. The sandtraps on hole 6 have been filled in and the area to the left and right of the traps are being improved. New forward tee boxes will be added to holes 4 and 13. What a great start to a most promising golf season.
