The bats came alive Tuesday evening at Mulcahy Field in Anchorage, as the Anchorage Bucs blanked the Peninsula Oilers in a 9-0 win, knocking out 12 hits along the way in the Alaska Baseball League divisional contest.

Five Anchorage players recorded two hits, with Zane Gurwitz leading the attack with a 2-for-4 day with five RBI. Gurwitz grounded out in the third inning to bring in a run, then added two more RBI in the bottom of the fifth with a double and in the seventh with a triple.

As has been the case of recent, the Oilers struggled with runners in scoring position. Overall, Peninsula left nine men on base.

Conner Dotson (2-2) pitched the loss for the Oilers with 4 1-3 innings of work, giving up four runs on five hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Quin Grogan (1-4) picked up his first win of the summer for the Bucs on the mound by tossing eight shutout innings, giving up six hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

The loss snapped a four-game win streak by the Oilers (10-8 AL, 13-11 overall), who remain in the lead of the ABL American League standings by 2 1-2 games over the Bucs (7-10).

Stephen Trosclair opened up a scoreless game in the bottom of the third, prior to Gurwitz’ groundout. Trosclair’s single brought in Taylor Walls and Grant Palmer to give the Bucs a 2-0 lead.

Kansas native Bennett Oliver notched his seventh double of the year en route to a 2-for-3 day at the plate for the Oilers, and Jordan Washam added a double as well.

The two teams meet again tonight at 7 p.m. at Mulcahy, as the Oilers hope to tie up the season series, which currently stands at 3-2 Bucs.
