The Birch Ridge Golf Association All-Alaska Pro-Am and Skins game went off without a hitch last Monday. Special thanks goes out to “El Presidente” Gary Davis for all his efforts leading up to the tournament. Gary has been such a golf course philanthropist of late that we’re strongly considering erecting a bronze statue in is honor!

Sally Hoagland put in a yeoman effort on the food front, pairing with the kind folks from Wells Fargo to host a wonderful barbecue. Well Fargo did such a wonderful job with the barbecue one might wonder if having a grill next the Wells Fargo ATM could a thing of the future. Who wouldn’t want a juicy grilled brat hot off the grill when you’re making a withdrawal!

Rob Nelson and Travis Jorgenson went crazy in the evening skins game posting five birdies in the first six holes! Minus-5 through six is wild in alternate shot, especially considering the duo missed an easy eagle opportunity at the fourth. They could have easily been minus-6 through six playing in that format. Wow! You’re not going to lose when you play like that.

Shane Sundberg, Danica Schmidt, Hudson Jackson, Brock Kant, and Katelin and Anika Richards traveled up to Palmer last week, representing Birch Ridge Golf Course. The miniature duffers played 27 holes of “Ryder Cup” style team golf against a “Valley” team and an Anchorage team. Our team is two points out of the lead in the Stableford scoring format. The teams will get together again following the Alaska State Junior Championship.

Old Folks Golf

The seniors forgot to provide a recap of their golfing exploits. We can only imagine all the incredible occurrences.

Tuesday Morning Ladies League

Ten ladies came out Tuesday morning to participate in socially exciting golf. Tanya Boedeker posted low net (score not provided). Margaret Stanley posted low gross (score not provided). Denise Cox had the fewest putts (no putts recorded).

Thursday Night Couples

There was no love lost between the golfer and game maker on Couples Night. Couples each played a ball off the tee and their own ball in from the best position. Things got tricky on the putting surface where golfers had to “rake back” any missed putt the length of their putter! Needless to say there were no tap-ins! The Chenault pairing emerged from the carnage to post a net 82, good enough for a one-shot edge over the Charlie Weimer-Denise Engberg duo. At last word all the five putts have not led to any marital issues of significance.

Joke of the Week

Two women were put together as partners in the club tournament and met on the putting green for the first time. After introductions, the first golfer asked, “What’s your handicap?”

“Oh, I’m a scratch golfer,” the other replied.

“Really!” exclaimed the first woman, suitably impressed that she was paired up with her.

“Yes, I write down all my good scores and scratch out the bad ones!” she replied.
