Although we have had some very interesting weather, there has still been some great activity at the golf course. The greens are looking great, fairways nice and clear and tee boxes looking beautiful.
Bird Homestead has a weekly calendar that stays the same every week to accommodate all golfers:
Mondays: $1 a hole — all day
Tuesdays: Men’s Night — starts at 7 p.m.
Wednesdays: Ladies night — starts at 7 p.m.
Thursdays: bring a friend for buy-a-round, get-a-round free
We always love to see new golfers at the course. Don’t have your own clubs? No problem, we have some you can rent. Don’t want to walk a round of golf, that’s okay, that’s what golf carts are for, and we have those too!
Don’t forget to mark your agendas for a round of golf at Bird Homestead Golf Course located at mile 11.8 on Funny River Road.
Ladies night
Although the weather wasn’t the best, we had some troopers come out and golf. Pat and Margie were on fire and came in first place. Pat also had an awesome drive on hole No. 4 winning her longest drive. Ladies night is every Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. We love to see new faces join us for this fun filled, no-men-allowed night.
Mens night
The 22 men that came out for men’s night on Tuesday had an adventurous night. Not only did it start to DUMP on them with pouring rain, they also got to experience a nice little shake on the course from the earthquake. Even with the craziness on the course, two teams still managed to come in with an incredible score of minus-5. How do you think this tie was settled? A chip off of course.
The team of Roy Bird, Rob Robertson and Greg Harrington came in first place, and Joel Overway, Trevor Baldwin, Richard Harman and Andrew Morton had to swallow their pride and take second. Long Drive went to Aaron “The Hulk” Blackburn. If you have ever seen Aaron hit, you would understand why he is “the Hulk”. Greg Harrington zoned into his golf game getting a pure birdie on hole No. 4. Trevor Baldwin and Richard Harman both had great tee shots on the par 3’s, Trevor hitting a mere 14 feet from the pin on hole No. 6 , and Richard only 24 feet on hole No. 8.
Mens night is every Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. A night with no women, cool guys to golf with and a chance to win some money, what more could you ask for?
Junior Golf lessons
Unfortunately, tonight is the last night of our junior program. I would like to thank Tom Walsh and the Bird Homestead Golf Association for all their help and support with this awesome program. We hope to continue this program next year and teach more junior golfers this wonderful sport. More information to come early next summer.
Fun Fact Thursday
The longest drive recorded was in 1974, when Michael Hoke Austin drove the ball 515 yards during a U.S. National Seniors tournament.
