The Cook Inlet Academy coed soccer team swept a three-game road trip from Thursday through Saturday to improve to 8-0 on the season.

CIA started the road trip with a 2-1 victory over Delta Junction on Thursday.

The game was scoreless at the half, then Connor Leaf, assisted by Andrew Hammond, scored in the 49th minute. Just a minute later, a Johnny Smithwick cross to Timmy Smithwick put the Eagles up 2-0.

Nathan Anderson scored late to tighten the game up for Delta, but CIA would hang on.

The Eagles stayed in Delta for a Friday game with Nenana, notching a 6-1 victory.

Johnny Smithwick scored on his first career header, on an assist from Timmy Smithwick. Timmy Smithwick then scored before Nenana cut the lead to 2-1.

But the Eagles then put up four unanswered goals: Timmy Smithwick assisted by Madison Orth, Timmy Smithwick assisted by Andrew Hammond, Connor Leaf, and Breona Delon notching her first career goal on an assist from Kate Zimmerman.

The Eagles wrapped up the trip with an 8-1 victory over Tri-Valley in Healy. Connor Leaf and Timmy Smithwick led the way with hat tricks, while Johnny Smithwick and Brady Hammond, who also had a scoreless half at goalie, added tallies.

CIA coach Kenny Leaf said Kate Zimmerman had an assist to continue a string of good play, while Madison Orth was solid at forward, and Ashleigh Hammond and Kendra Brush played stout defense.

The Kardinals host Tri-Valley at 6 p.m. Thursday and Delta at 4 p.m. Friday. Both games are at the Kenai Sports Complex.
