The Wasilla hockey team defeated Soldotna 8-0 on Saturday in the third-place game at the Big Lake Lions Christmas Classic in Big Lake.

Billy Yoder made 47 saves for the Stars.

Kenai 6, Lathrop 5

Kenai scored three times in the third period to rally to top Lathrop during the final day of the Big Lake Lions Christmas Classic on Saturday morning in Big Lake. Both squads were 0-2 at the tournament heading into the game.

Levi Mese scored twice during the final 9 minutes, 19 seconds, of play to help Kenai grab victory. Jakeb O’Brien and Triston Bulot also scored twice for the Kardinals.

Five different players found the back of the net for the Malemutes, and all five goals came on special teams. Hayden Masterson, Ben Gutting, Adam Victorino and Colin King each scored on the power play for Lathrop. Trenton Spears added a short-handed tally.

Lathrop led 4-3 heading into the final period.

Colony 5, Soldotna 1

Colony used 63 shots and a Jacob Kirsch hat trick to beat Soldotna 5-1 on Friday in the semifinals.

Kirsch scored twice in the first period to help Colony grab a 2-0 lead. His first goal of the game came on the power play. The Colony forward added a goal with 26 seconds left in the second period. Isaiah Hall and Bryce Crosta also scored for the Knights.

Trevor Witthus scored the lone goal for the Stars.

Colony outshot Soldotna 63-16 in the win. Billy Yoder made 58 saves for the Stars, including 24 in the second period.

Houston 7, Kenai 4

Tristan Hracha, Sam Fonov and Reed Humphreys each scored twice to lead Houston to a 7-4 win over Kenai Central during consolation round action of the Big Lake Lions Christmas Classic Friday in Big Lake.

Austin Zweifel also scored for Houston.

Levi Mese, Ivan Mercado, Jakeb O’Brien and Tyler Lingafelt each scored for Kenai.
