The Soldotna hockey team defeated Homer 4-1 on Tuesday in Homer in North Star Conference play.

The Stars move to 6-9 overall and 2-3 in the league, while the Mariners fall to 0-5 in the league.

SoHi grabbed a 2-0 lead after the first period. Cameron Knowlton, on assists from Levi Hensley and Jace Urban, started the scoring for the Stars. Hensley then scored unassisted before the period was out.

Matthew Daugherty, assisted by Ethan Brown, had the lone goal of the second period to push the SoHi lead to 3-1.

Then Corey Hanson, assisted by Brown, put the Stars up 4-0 just 2 minutes, 45 seconds, into the third period.

Homer earned a five-on-three power play and used it to stop the shutout attempt of Stars goalie Billy Yoder. Dimitry Kuzmin notched the power-play tally for the Mariners.

The two squads now jump out of conference play for the weekend.

Soldotna hosts Dimond at 7:30 p.m. Friday and West at 2:45 p.m. Saturday. Homer plays at Chugiak at 7:15 p.m. Friday and at Eagle River at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
