The Oilers are once again offering college scholarships to area graduating seniors. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded by the Peninsula Oilers Baseball Club, Inc., to a graduating senior from either Kenai Central, Soldotna or Nikiski high schools. An additional $1,000 scholarship will be awarded by the Oilers Booster Club to a graduating senior from any Kenai Peninsula accredited high school program. To apply for either scholarship go to www.oilersbaseball.com. Applications must be received by April 22.

The local Alaska Baseball League team roster continues to grow with the addition of a pair of outfielders. Florida International University junior Kenny Meimerstorf, whose hometown is Henderson, Nevada, and Florida Tech sophomore Daniel Szpik, who is from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, have signed with the club.

Are you interested in becoming a member of the “Peninsula’s Team,” either as a sponsor or as an interested fan? Then be sure and check out the team’s website at www.oilersbaseball.com.

Oilers Corner is submitted by Mike Baxter, general manager of baseball operations who can be contacted at gm@oilersbaseball.com.
